Graffiti Wall
The SSN 2008 Conference featured a Graffiti Wall, to allow delegates to jot down their thoughts on the key themes of the event…as and when they occurred!
Unfortunately, SSN staff forgot to take a photograph of the finished Graffiti Wall, but we assure you it was packed with notes from delegates! Below are the transcribed notes from the Wall - each and every one of them...
Your Thoughts On... Sustainable Economic Growth
- It's a one planet future
- If only the minister had stayed for Paul Ekins's talk and the subsequent discussion...
- There is no room for high carbon investments on the road to 80%
- Directing Public Sector Finance Towards Sustainable Development
- We need more creative accounting, in a good way!
- Can the finance world be relied on to address the challenge of climate change? - Where did the credit crunch come from? Maybe SD officers should address the global economic crisis...
Your Thoughts On... Carbon Accounting
- What's the carbon account for Trump's golf course?
- Carbon accounting needs to be simple
- Personal carbon allowances
- Carbon accounting and carbon accountability!
- The Shadow Cost of Carbon is smoke and mirrors
Your Thoughts On... Sustainable Procurement
- Let's see it as a positive opportunity
- Choice editing of high carbon emitting products
- It's not a cost, it's an investment
- Bottle recycling similar to Germany
What Will You Take Home From The Conference?
- The idea of focusing on 'carbon productivity' on a par with 'labour productivity' - it's equally key to economic development
- Edinburgh & Fife - great joint working
- We need a stable cost of carbon & heavy regulation…we can't rely on the market alone.
- 'You cannot manage what you cannot measure' but what do you measure? (and remember to tell your accountant to collect the data)
- We (UK) don't know how to live in a no growth economy!!
- Accountants wear many disguises (or have many roles!)
- Mother Nature does not recognize 'weeds' or 'waste' only 'plants' and 'resources'
- What is this all about?? Couldn't we do something serious like the Welsh?
- Let us take an optimistic view in Scotland - Paul Ekins slide
- Lead now! No time to wait!
- Don't preach! Do it right!
- In 8 years GHG levels will be at 'dangerous' levels and my wee boy won't be out of short trousers…god speed us all!
- How often did you turn off (anyone's) PC or lights in an empty room this week?
- Did you use your hotel lift to go down to breakfast? I saw someone do just that
What's The Best Idea You've Heard During The Conference?
- Less talk, more... not talking
- Big stick
- Sustainable accounting - don't count beans, grow them!
- Targets must reflect the real challenge of carbon reduction
- Where can I vote for an environmental dictator?
- Can Paul Ekins please run for Prime Minister
- Full costing of indirect and direct impacts = transparency and responsibility
- Arrange an hour for Paul Ekins and Stewart Stevenson MSP to be together
Your Thoughts On... The Conference Venue And Conference Lunches
- Too many lights on! SSN is not setting a good example
- Yesterday morning all seminar rooms had lights on full and projectors running for hours before required
- SSN should only use low carbon venues!
- Venue: Lights! Heat! Sustainable? Signals?
- SSN Conferences must not serve bottled water!
- The service, food and wine have been great!
- Food: Lunch! All three dishes contained cheese - OK if you like cheese
- Conference dinner all vegetarian - extremely disappointing. You should cater for everyone - money should be refunded
